The Democratic leaders of the Congress assured that the president, Donald Trump, with whom they met today for the second time this week, threatened in that meeting to maintain the closure of the Administration “months or even years”.
“We told the president that we need open government, he resisted. In fact, said it would keep the administration closed for a long time, months or even years,” said the leader of the Democratic minority in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, a the departure of the meeting in the White House.
Administration is partially closed since Dec. 22 because negotiations between Republicans and Democrats in Congress stalled following the requirement of Trump that the draft budget includes a batch of more than 5,000 million dollars to finance the border wall.
In this regard, the flamboyant president of the House, Nancy Pelosi, who has repeated on several occasions that will not give more funds for the construction of the wall, said today that Democrats are “committed” to border security.
“We are committed to keeping our borders secure, but we can do better when the government is open, we have made it clear to the president,” Pelosi told reporters at the end of the meeting.
“We have made some progress,” added the Democrat, who did not elaborate.
The Lower House, led by Pelosi, approved Thursday funding projects to end the partial closure of the Administration that does not include resources for the border wall and that will now go to the Senate.
With a vote 239-192, lawmakers approved a short-term spending bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) until February 8.
Another set of resources for six agencies of the Trump government until November 30 was approved with a vote of 241-190.
The initiatives presumably will not be approved by the Senate, which has a Republican majority.
The administrative paralysis, which completed today two weeks, affects agencies of ten Executive departments, including Transportation and Justice; as well as dozens of national parks, which are usually a major tourist attraction.
In addition, it harms some 800,000 of the 2.1 million federal workers, who will not charge while the government remains closed and are at the expense of approving a new budget. (EFEUSA) .-
