About ten members representing different areas of the Senate of California in the United States visited a shelter in the Mexican city of Tijuana that hosts a hundred Central Americans of the migrant caravan.
The surprise visit, which was held on Thursday afternoon, was aimed at ensuring that the congressmen knew the conditions in which the migrants find themselves, in order to find a way to help them and a solution to the problem.
Susan Rubio, senator from California in Los Angeles, told the media that with these actions, a strategy of attention for the Central Americans remaining in Tijuana in the different hostels can be proposed.
“Taking care of their diet, health, and study, in the case of minors,” he said.
He said that another migrant caravan is expected to reach the United States in the coming days, and therefore it is necessary to know in detail the needs and solutions to raise them before another group of US officials and avoid a bigger problem.
Rubio, of the Democratic Party, pointed out that currently the policies of the United States President, Donald Trump, are those that delay the attention to those who already requested a political asylum.
However, California seeks to expedite it because the migrant community, he said, is productive for that country because of the work areas that have vacancies.
The congressmen toured the two floors of the shelter “Contra Viento y Marea”, which is located in the North Zone of Tijuana, and where 160 migrants from Central America are currently sheltered waiting their turn to be called by migration and obtain political asylum.
Since mid-October, thousands of migrants have traveled from Central America in several caravans with the desire to reach the United States. (EFEUSA) .-
