‘Hulk’ cartoonist, Joe Bennett, will be in the Valencia Comic Hall

Brazilian cartoonist Joe Bennett, international star of the Marvel and DC factory and cartoonist of the successful saga ‘The Immortal Hulk’, joins the guest list of the Valencia Comic Hall, which will be held from February 28 to 1 March at Feria Valencia.

This was announced by those responsible for the meeting, which highlights that it will be the first time that Benedito José Nascimento is as a guest author at a European fair “and will contribute to the Valencia Comic Hall the international significance of an author of his stature”.

Nicknamed “Bene” by his friends, he has worked in both Marvel and DC and in titles such as ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’, ‘Captain America vol.2’, ‘Nightmare’, ‘Conan’, ‘Nova vol.3’, ‘Elektra vol.2’, ‘Captain America and the Falcon’ and ‘The Incredible Hulk vol.2’, among many others, being one of the high points of his career working alongside Alan Moore in ‘Supreme’.

The artist was targeted by DC Comics, with whom he signed an exclusive contract and where he was supporting the art of ‘Infinite Crisis’ and in several titles such as the excellent ’52’, the spin-off of ‘The Sandman’ entitled ‘The Sandman Presents: Bast’, and in the New ’52’ with ‘Deathstroke’ and ‘The Savage Hawkman’, in addition to participating in the comics of the series’ Arrow ‘and the digital cartoon of the Man of Steel,’ Adventures of Superman ‘.

Bennett has worked for the majority of publishers in the US market, including ‘Devil’s Due Publishing’, ‘Chaos! Comics’, ‘Now’ and ‘Continuyiti Comics’. He also participated in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ for ‘Dark Horse Comics’. In 2018 he became the regular cartoonist of the series ‘The Immortal Hulk’, for Marvel Comics, in the relaunch of the character with the screenwriter Al Ewing.

Together with this international firm, the Valencia Comic Hall has also confirmed its presence during the fair of one of “the great references in contemporary Spanish comic books”, such as Antonio Altarriba from Zaragoza, National Comic Award in 2019 and Grand Prix of the Barcelona Comic Hall this year. Altarriba is an essayist, novelist, critic and screenwriter of comics and television who, in addition, is a professor of French literature at the University of the Basque Country.

Antonio Altarriba is also president of ARGH !, the Professional Association of Comic Writers. It is a newly created association that was born this 2019 with the intention of grouping different professionals from the world of ninth art and giving them a meeting place, ensuring their rights, serving as a promotion platform and offering training in the field of Comic writing.

Next to him, the creative Catalan Susanna Martín, illustrator and graphic designer author of several comic books and graphic novels focused on women, such as’ Amal Gaza: Comics of brave women in the Strip has also confirmed their participation in the Valencia Comic Hall of Gaza ‘, carried out in collaboration with UNRWA, the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East, which will be presented during the Hall.

The last name to join the cast of professionals who have already confirmed their presence in the Valencia Comic Hall is Elisa McCausland, a Spanish journalist, critic and researcher specializing in popular culture and feminism. In November 2018, he received the Ignotus award in the essay category for his book ‘Wonder Woman: Feminism as a superpower’.

These four professionals join the list of authors already confirmed previously by the Valencia Comic Hall. Among them are authors such as Jordi Bernet, a long-time cartoonist who rose to popularity with ‘Torpedo 1936’, a work of international dimension. He has been recognized as an artist at international festivals such as Angouleme and the San Diego Comic-con.

There will also be the presence of Marika Vila, comic book author who developed her work with a strong political commitment to feminism at a time that forced her to carry out her countercurrent projects: the 70s. Together with them they have confirmed their attendance Valencian Paco Roca, Sento, Cristina Durán, Miguel Ángel Giner Bou and Luis NCT, among others. Many of the Valencian authors will be present in the area dedicated to Valencian comic.
