Trump to Award Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani the Presidential Medal of Freedom

President Donald Trump has announced that he will award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani (1994-2001), who has been in poor health since a traffic accident a few days ago.

“I am pleased to announce that Rudy Giuliani, the greatest mayor in the history of New York City and an equally great American patriot, will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, our country’s highest civilian honor,” he stated on his Truth Social platform, in a brief post that did not reveal the date or location of the award.

Giuliani, 81, suffered a vertebral fracture, along with multiple injuries and bruises, in a traffic accident after a vehicle struck the car he was traveling in from behind at high speed, his security chief revealed Sunday.

Among those honored with the United States’ highest civilian honor are Spanish chef José Andrés and the late Pope Francis (both in January 2025, by former President Joe Biden).
