The death toll from the “massive attack” carried out by the Russian Army on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, in the early hours of Thursday has risen to 23, Ukrainian authorities have confirmed, indicating that search and rescue efforts continue in the area.
Kyiv Governor Timur Tkachenko announced this new death toll via Telegram, where he had recently confirmed the death toll of four children reported by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), including a two-year-old baby.
He previously lamented that the number of confirmed deaths “will increase” since search and rescue efforts will continue in the Darnitsia district, where “there are people with whom there has been no contact since the attack.” They will continue “throughout the night,” while in the rest of the Ukrainian capital, rescuers have completed most of their operations.
“Now our services are focused on helping the population,” he added, before indicating that damage has so far been recorded in at least 225 residential buildings, as well as garages, courtyards, and public buildings, forcing more than twenty families to be relocated.
