Meta introduces THREADS

Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, has introduced a new microblogging app called Threads. This move puts Meta in direct competition with Twitter, which has been the dominant player in text-based social media.

Threads functions similarly to Twitter, allowing users to write short posts, reply, like, and comment. However, Meta plans to eventually decentralize Threads, enabling users to manage their data across different apps.

With Twitter boasting around 350 million active users and expecting $3 billion in advertising revenue this year, Meta aims to leverage its existing user base of 3 billion and robust data collection policy to drive rapid growth for Threads.

Interestingly, rumors of a potential showdown between Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter’s Elon Musk have been circulating, with Musk teasing the possibility of a cage fight in Rome’s Colosseum.
