Trump could face trial on three counts

Capitol Hill Storm Committee to Vote for Justice Department to Prosecute Trump on Three Charges.

The panel expects the former president to be tried for crimes of insurrection, conspiracy and obstruction of justice.

The parliamentary committee investigating the assault on the United States Capitol is preparing to vote to call on the Department of Justice to present at least three criminal charges against former President Donald Trump, including that of insurrection, reported ‘Politician’.

The report, which the select panel is expected to consider Monday afternoon, would reflect some recommendations from a subcommittee that evaluated possible criminal references. Among the charges the subcommittee proposes for Trump are insurrection, obstruction of official procedure and conspiracy to defraud the United States government.

While it’s unclear whether the committee’s final report will add additional charges against Trump, it goes into extensive detail as to why the former president should be tried for the three aforementioned crimes.

To justify incitement to insurrection, the report references the Senate’s 57 votes in a 2021 impeachment trial, Trump’s second, to convict him on a House-approved “incitement to insurrection” charge, it has reported. the aforementioned newspaper.

Likewise, the committee report also indicates that, to violate the insurrection statute, Trump did not need an express agreement with the rioters, but simply needed to provide them “aid or comfort.”

The Justice Department, which is already criminally investigating Trump’s actions related to the capitol storming, is not required to consider the congressional references, as they carry no legal weight.

However, the committee plans to act in the hope that input from congressmen can influence Justice Department decision-making.
