The Golden Globes blessed the comedy “The Kominsky Method” in their televised sections today, honored the espionage drama “The Americans” with honors, and recognized the limited series “The Assassination of Gianni Versace” by Latino actors such as Penelope Cruz and Édgar Ramírez.
The 76th edition of the awards organized annually by the Association of Hollywood Foreign Press (HFPA) left a list of winners distributed on the small screen with only two series, “The Kominsky method” and “The murder of Gianni Versace”, as winners by double game and in front of all a mosaic of triumphant in singular.
The night was not especially lucky for the Hispanics since the nominees Penélope Cruz, Antonio Banderas, Édgar Ramírez and Daniel Brühl failed to win in their respective sections.
The tender and emotional series “The Kominsky Method”, headed by two legendary actors such as Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin, won the award for best comedy or musical series and also gave recognition to the best comic actor Douglas.
“I guess I have to dedicate this award to my 102-year-old father Kirk,” Michael Douglas said on stage when he picked up his statuette for this series created by Chuck Lorre, responsible for successful productions such as “Two and a half men” or “The Big Bang Theory “.
“The Kominsky method” revealed as best comedy “The wonderful Mrs. Maisel”, who, however, could repeat the Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy series thanks to Rachel Brosnahan.
The interpreter, a sensation on the small screen for her role as a singular monologist in the fifties, defined the team of the series as “a matriarchy” led by the creator of this production, Amy Sherman-Palladino.
After six seasons full of intrigue and tension, the series of spies “The Americans” said goodbye in 2018 and today received a tribute of luxury to take, for the first time, the Golden Globe to the best television drama.
The triumph was not complete for “The Americans”, since their charismatic protagonists Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell, who are also a couple in real life, could not win in the interpretation categories in which they were nominated.
Thus, Richard Madden won, against the odds, the Golden Globe for best dramatic actor for “Bodyguard”, while Sandra Oh defeated renowned candidates like Julia Roberts (“Homecoming”) to be chosen the best actress in a drama for her role in “Killing Eve.”
“There are two people here tonight that I am very grateful they are here,” said Oh, who was with Andy Samberg the host of the gala, referring in Korean to their parents.
For its part, “American Crime Story: The murder of Gianni Versace” doubled to be crowned as best limited series or television film and take its protagonist Darren Criss the Golden Globe for best actor in this category.
Brad Simpson, executive producer of this series, launched a forceful speech in defense of diversity and in favor of resistance to intolerance and homophobia.
“Those forces of hate and fear are still with us: they tell us that we should fear different people, they tell us that we should put walls around us … As artists, we must defend ourselves by representing those who are not represented,” he said.
The list of winners was completed by Patricia Arquette as best actress of limited series or television movie for “Fuga a Dannemora”; Ben Whishaw as best supporting actor in a series for “A Very English Scandal” and Patricia Clarkson as best supporting actress for “Open Wounds”.
Clarkson also left a moment as humorous as vindication to thank its director Jean-Marc Vallée to “ask for everything except sex, which is how it should be in this industry.”
Finally, the Golden Globes presented today for the first time an honorary prize for the television career, which Carol Burnett received and which, in the future, will be named after this star of the show.
Very excited at the great ovation from her classmates, the artist stressed that as a child she was fascinated that “stars on the screen could make people laugh, cry or sometimes both.”
“I wished and I hoped that maybe one day I could do the same and those childhood dreams came true.” (EFEUSA) .-
