More than 850 killed in “crash and flight” cases in Florida since 2012

The accident cases in which the driver hits and leaves his victim increased in the state of Florida by 36% between 2012 and 2016 and killed 858 people, state officials said on Friday.

Of the 72,887 so-called “hit-and-run” accidents in 2012 were increased to 99,004 in 2016, according to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

The so-called “accident and flight” have caused an average of 170 deaths annually between 2012 and 2016, mostly in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties in the south of the state.

On Monday, another case occurred in Davie, north of Miami, where a man, who was run over by a vehicle that fled, died after being left unattended on the pavement.

A day earlier, a woman was killed in the same way, crossing an avenue in Boynton Beach, Palm Beach County.
