Expolicía of Miami pleads guilty of trafficking arms to Dominican Republic

A Miami police officer pleaded guilty today to conspiring to smuggle at least six weapons in 2012 through Miami International Airport to the Dominican Republic, helping to evade controls at the terminal.

Michael Freshko, 48, pleaded guilty to federal judge Alicia Otazo-Reyes and faces up to five years in jail, the US Attorney’s Office said today.
Freshko, who was a Miami-Dade County police officer, admitted that in October and December 2012 he helped the weapons pass controls to deliver to people traveling to the Dominican Republic.

The US Attorney’s Office Accused Turnoff of taking advantage of his work as a police officer to evade federal airport inspections and to leave accomplices in the hand luggage compartment on commercial airplanes.

Juan Perez, director of the Miami-Dade Police, said Freshko was relieved of his duties as of December 2, 2015, when investigations began.
