Some assistance centers in South Florida for Hurricane Irma have returned to congregate long lines from early hours, after the untimely closure that was registered in several places of inscription Saturday.
The Tropical Park venue, for example, has a long tail before it, as reported by the Miami Herald, in a scene similar to the one on Saturday, during which four venues had to be closed before the hour, including of Amelia Earhart Park, which will remain closed until further notice.
The Florida Department of Children and Families this week launched a food aid program for Hurricane Irma, known as D-SNAP, which provides food-exchange cards at local supermarkets.
On Saturday, police officers from Miami-Dade and Broward counties had to close at least six sign-up locations before the time, after some people lined up to suffer from heatwaves and discussions among the attendees.
Florida Department of Children and Families spokeswoman Beatriz López said that to date more than 1.1 million Floridians have benefited from this program, which has been established in 24 Florida counties and will continue to provide assistance as long as there is a safe distribution plan.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office ordered three registration centers to be closed today, given the impossibility of ensuring security during the day.
The state agency said late Saturday that in this county and Miami-Dade in the future would be announced new dates for those who failed to enroll in the program this weekend.
