Dominican outfielder Marcell Ozuna shone on the day of the majors with the power of his bat that helped him to finish third place in the National League in the section of homers and to be the most outstanding Latin American player.
Ozuna hit the Miami Marlins’ 9-6 win over the St. Louis Cardinals and went on to 23 homers after the third inning punished starter Mike Leake with no runners ahead and no outs on the board.
With his homecoming, Ozuna is third fastest on the Old Course in homers, where he is tied with teammate Giancarlo Stanton (23) and Eric Thames (23) of the Milwaukee Brewers.
The three are outperformed only by Cincinnati Reds’ Joey Votto and rookie Cody Bellinger of the Los Angeles Dodgers, each with 24.
