“We hope that the next six months will be a great opportunity to restart the peace process and move towards complete denuclearization and lasting peace on the Korean peninsula,” which has been technically at war since the end of the conflict in 1953, Lee said. during a forum, according to the Yonhap news agency.
The South Korean minister expects a flexible position from Biden and has stressed that the future US president has left the door open for a future meeting with Kim Jong Un if it serves to achieve practical progress on the nuclear issue.
Outgoing President Donald Trump organized two summits with Kim, the latest of which ended abruptly in February 2019 with no agreement. Since then, there have been peaks of tension between the two Koreas, which have declared their communications broken.
