Ivanka Trump, the daughter and adviser to the president, Donald Trump, today presented a plan to help 50 million women in developing countries to improve their economic prospects by 2025, although their initial budget is modest, of just 50 million of dollars.
The Global Initiative for the Development and Prosperity of Women, promoted by Ivanka and signed by President Trump, seeks to develop new programs to encourage their formation, facilitate financial support and promote reforms in their countries that break down possible barriers.
“Women are 50 percent of the population and, therefore, absolutely crucial for the prosperity of each country, and we want to encourage that,” said Trump’s daughter during the act signing the initiative in the Oval Office.
The plan will be financed with public and private resources, with an initial fund of 50 million dollars managed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), an institution whose budget Trump has tried several times to cut.
That relatively small budget sparked some criticism, such as those of Brad Simpson, a historian specializing in Development and Human Rights and an analyst at the Woodrow Wilson Center.
“This is hilarious: 50 million dollars to help 50 million women, one dollar per woman, or rather 0.02 per woman, once we subtract the money that WalMart and others will spend on propaganda on the subject. while, they cut international aid, “wrote Simpson on his Twitter account.
The supermarket chain WalMart is one of the companies that has committed to support the initiative, as have UPS, Deloitte and Procter & Gamble, as well as the World Bank and Unicef.
The White House insists that the 50 million fund is only “a component” of its initiative, and hopes that the plan will thrive thanks to the mobilization of private companies and the awareness of all agencies of the US Government on the need to contribute to the development of women globally.
“This is a tremendous step for women,” said President Trump when signing the inaugural document of the initiative.
“Other leaders from other countries have asked to be involved in this … Our goal is to empower women to help their countries become self-sufficient places,” added Trump, who promised to make the program “a priority” in your future federal budget proposals.
The White House has not specified which countries will benefit from the initiative, which Ivanka Trump will promote next week at the Munich Security Conference (MSC, for its acronym in English), scheduled for days 15, 16 and 17. ( EFEUSA) .-
