Ken Griffin, the multi-millionaire founder of the investment firm Citadel, has paid $ 238 million for an attic in New York, which has become the most expensive home ever sold in the United States.
The apartment, located in a tower under construction next to Central Park, has an area of 24,000 square feet (about 2,230 square meters) spread over four floors.
The 238 million dollars disbursed make the property, located in one of the most exclusive areas of the Big Apple, the most expensive home sold in the history of New York and the US, according to several media.
The purchase was confirmed today to The Wall Street Journal by a Citadel spokeswoman, who explained that Griffin was looking for a place to stay when traveling to New York, where his company is expanding activities.
The multimillionaire, who resides in Chicago, is considered the richest man in the state of Illinois, with a fortune estimated at almost $ 10 billion.
Griffin, who started investing while studying at Harvard University, founded Citadel in 1990 and quickly accumulated significant profits.
Recently, the investor has distinguished himself by his love of multi-million dollar purchases, after taking over several floors of a building in Chicago for 58.75 million dollars and buying in 2016 a penthouse in Miami for 60 million.
In addition, since 2012 Griffin has spent almost 250 million dollars on land to build a mansion in Palm Beach (Florida) and this month bought a house in London for about 122 million dollars.
Outside of real estate, the financier paid in 2016 some 500 million dollars for a pair of paintings by Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, one of the largest private purchases in the art world.
In addition, in 2017 Griffin donated 125 million dollars to the University of Chicago.
