Actress Claudia Cardinale, Icon of Italian Cinema, Dies at 87

Actress Claudia Cardinale, an icon of Italian cinema, died this Tuesday at the age of 87 in the Ile-de-France region, near Paris, according to French media.

Cardinale, born in Tunisia in 1939 and with Italian nationality, is considered one of the greatest actresses of European cinema, developing her career alongside directors such as Sergio Leone, Mario Monicelli, Pasquale Squitieri, Luchino Visconti, Richard Brooks, Franco Zeffirelli, and Federico Fellini.

She appeared in legendary films such as “The Leopard,” “8½,” “The Pink Panther,” “Mussolini’s Lover,” and “The Oil Workers” alongside Brigitte Bardot. Her debut was in 1958 alongside actor Omar Sharif in the film “Goha.” It was the film “Rufufú,” starring Vittorio Gassman, that made him famous in Hollywood.

Some of his most recent productions include the Spanish film “The Artist and the Model” (Fernando Trueba, 2012) and the Bulgarian feature film “Twice Upon a Time in the West” (Boris Despodov).
