Trump threatens to revoke NBC and ABC’s licenses for being “biased and lying”

US President Donald Trump has threatened to revoke the licenses of the television networks NBC and ABC, claiming they are “a real threat” to American democracy due to their alleged ideological bias.

“Despite sky-high popularity and, according to many, among the best eight months in presidential history, ABC and NBC ‘fake news,’ two of the worst and most biased networks in history, give me 97 percent bad news,” he protested on his Truth Social platform.

In the same message, he accused both networks of being “a branch of the Democratic Party.” “According to many, the FCC should revoke their licenses. I fully agree, because they are so biased and lying that they pose a real threat to our democracy,” he added.

Shortly after, the White House resident suggested on the same social media platform that ABC and NBC pay “millions of dollars a year” for their licenses.

“They should lose their licenses for their unfair coverage of Republicans and/or conservatives,” he reiterated, before insisting that “at the very least, they should pay a fortune for the privilege of using the most valuable airwaves anywhere, anytime.”

The president concluded by stating that “corrupt journalism should not be rewarded, but rather eradicated.”

These statements come after Trump has targeted major US media outlets such as CBS and ABC, which reached a $15 million (almost €13 million) settlement with the president last July over defamation allegations.
