President-elect Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he will not hire Republicans who have been critical of him in recent years, such as his former vice president, Mike Pence, former representative Liz Cheney or former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, for his incoming administration.
Trump, who announced through his profile on the Truth Social platform that he has hired more than 1,000 people for the government who “are exceptional in every way and will see the fruits of their work in the coming years,” has asked that people who have worked with several of his critics not be recommended to him, in order to “save time, money and effort.”
“It would be helpful if you did not send us or recommend people who worked with, or are backed by, Americans for No Prosperity,” he said, referring to the libertarian and conservative group Americans for Prosperity (AFP), funded by the Koch brothers.
The tycoon mentioned Pence, Cheney and Haley, but also former Vice President Dick Cheney (2001-2009), former Senator Mitt Romney, former Speaker of the House of Representatives Paul Ryan and donor Charles Koch. It is worth mentioning that Pence and Haley faced Trump during the 2024 Republican primaries, while the Cheneys (father and daughter) supported his rival at the polls, Democrat Kamala Harris.
In addition, Trump has included several former officials from his own administration, including his former National Security Advisor John Bolton; Former Secretaries of Defense James Mattis (2017-2018) and Mark Esper (2019-2020); and former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley.
