Pelosi considers Biden “one of the most transcendental presidents in the history” of the country
Former US President Barack Obama on Wednesday thanked the outgoing president of the country, Joe Biden, for “his leadership, his friendship and his life of service” to the country, after the latter gave what was his last speech from the Oval Office, in which he wished “luck” to the next Government led by Donald Trump.
“Four years ago, in the midst of a pandemic, we needed a leader with the character necessary to put politics aside and do the right thing. That’s what Biden did. At a time when our economy was faltering, he drove what would become the strongest recovery in the world,” he said.
Obama has highlighted that Biden has achieved “17 million new jobs, historic wage increases and lower health care costs,” while he has approved “historic legislation to rebuild our nation’s infrastructure and address the threat of climate change.”
“HIS PLACE IN THE PANTHEON OF AMERICAN DEMOCRACY”
For her part, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who is one of the most important names in the Democratic Party and went so far as to suggest that Biden should reconsider his candidacy for the White House, has assured that “he is one of the most transcendental presidents in the history” of the country and that, together with his ‘number two’, Kamala Harris, “he has earned his place in the pantheon of American democracy.”
“With the wisdom and magnificent leadership of Biden and Harris, our nation has been blessed with four historic years of progress, hope and unity for working American families. Tonight, he delivered his farewell address to a nation that is stronger because of his leadership,” she said, before stating that “all Americans can be proud of the leadership and dignity they brought to the White House.”
Pelosi stressed that the United States “has been fortunate to have a strong, firm and wise commander in chief who honored and promoted American values in the global arena.” “With a wealth of experience and global relationships that are unrivaled, Biden has masterfully led the United States on the world stage. Under (his) visionary leadership, the United States has been unequivocal in defending democracy at home and around the world,” she added.
In addition to assuring that “NATO is stronger and more united than ever,” he said that Biden and Harris have “built” with the collaboration of the Democrats in Congress “an imposing legacy of extraordinary achievements for the American people,” by “pulling” the country “out of the depths of the pandemic and driving the strongest economic recovery in the world.”
