The Cuban Government reported this Monday morning that its Embassy in the United States has been attacked with Molotov cocktails, with no apparent personal injuries reported.
The incident occurred late on Sunday and both the president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, and his Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, have openly spoken of a “terrorist attack.” Díaz-Canel has warned that this “hatred” could “cost valuable lives.”
“The details are being worked out,” Rodríguez said for his part, although on his social network account X (formerly Twitter) he attributed the incident to a single individual.
The head of Cuban diplomacy has also recalled another attack, which occurred in April 2020, when a person opened fire on the building with a rifle. “Anti-Cuban groups resort to terrorism because they feel impunity, something that Cuba has repeatedly alerted US authorities about,” he lamented.
Díaz-Canel hopes in this case for some type of “action” from the US authorities. Just this past week, the president of Cuba was in the United States, leading the island’s delegation to the UN General Assembly and demanding, among other things, the end of the embargo.
