Former President Jimmy Carter votes for Kamala Harris, one of his last wishes at 100 years old

Former US President Jimmy Carter, who turned 100 at the beginning of the month, cast his vote by mail on Wednesday in favor of the Democratic candidate and current vice president of the country, Kamala Harris, thus fulfilling one of his last wishes.

This was confirmed to the network by a spokesperson for the Carter Center, the non-profit organization for international observation created by the former president and his late wife Rosalyn in 1982, shortly after leaving the White House after a single term.

The day before, Carter’s family went with the former president to queue up to be able to vote early in the elections. The last time the former president could be seen was on his birthday, confined to a wheelchair and surrounded by his family.

Former President Carter has been suffering from cancer for almost a decade and has been receiving palliative care since February 2023. Last August, Jason Carter, one of the former president’s grandsons, said that his grandfather had told him he wanted to stay alive long enough to vote for Harris in the upcoming election, which will see her face off against former President Donald Trump.
