Demolished the House-Museum of Pablo Escobar in Medellín

The so-called Pablo Escobar House-Museum in Medellín has been demolished this Monday by officials of the Medellín Mayor’s Office to put an end to the so-called Narcotours that exalted the figure of the drug trafficker.

Some 50 officials from the secretariats of Security and Coexistence, Territorial Management and Control and the Metropolitan Police arrived this Monday at the house, located in Loma del Indio, in El Poblado de Medellín, reports the Colombian newspaper ‘El Tiempo’.

“After years of litigation and several urban sanctions, the demolition of the irregular construction that was on the property, recognized as a site of tourist influx of the misnamed narcotours, was verified,” explained the operational undersecretary of the Secretariat of Security, Colonel Omar Rodriguez.

The demolition order was imposed by Police Inspection 9B because the property had a two-story construction that did not have the necessary permits for its operation, construction, and opening to the public.

The house was owned by Roberto Escobar Gaviria, alias ‘El Osito’, brother of the late leader of the Medellín Cartel. “When we arrived at the place we found that the owner of the property had already advanced these actions. From the District we reject the use of the territory for those activities that promote drug tourism,” Rodríguez added.

The owner filed several protection actions to avoid demolition, but they were denied by a judge, who notified him of the order to comply with it in the legal terms until June 30. It has finally been executed on July 10.
