The Senate of the Republic is in the process of transforming its electrical matrix with the installation of an innovative photovoltaic system made up of more than 700 solar panels on the roof of the legislative headquarters, as part of the modernization work carried out by the institution .
The electricity that will be generated by the solar energy circuit will contribute 264 kilowatt-hours per day to the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI), equivalent to the electrical energy that would be consumed by 112 average homes in the nation and the annual planting of 8,700 trees, in addition to reducing 285 tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere each year.
“The solar panels are being installed, a complete building already has them installed and in the other the installation of the solar energy system is being completed to complete the two buildings that house the Senate of the Republic. Everything that has been done has been with the Senate’s own budget, and I believe that it is not an expense but an investment. This has achieved the effects and the performance that we are having in the face of citizenship,” said Eduardo Estrella, president of the Senate.
With the photovoltaic system, the Upper House will experience a reduction of approximately 30 percent in its electricity bill, which increases the energy independence of the legislative body.
The acquisition of the hundreds of solar panels was carried out through a public bidding process for the supply, installation, training and commissioning of the clean energy matrix.
“We in the Hemicycle, in a plenary session of the Senate, approved the Law that Provides for the Installation of Renewable Energy Sources in Public and Private Buildings. That is why they use being among the first to install clean energy networks, specifically solar energy, which is excellent because it can be managed on a small and medium scale, does not emit greenhouse gases and has proven to be one of the most efficient technologies against climate change,” said the president of the Senate.
With the installation of the solar panels, the Senate will contribute to reducing the effects of climate change and comply with the national plan to reduce CO2 emissions and the use of renewable energy.
