Biden signs two executive orders to strengthen Obamacare and achieve more universal healthcare

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has signed two executive orders this Thursday with a view to strengthening the Affordable Care Act, popularly known as Obamacare, and thus making healthcare more universal.

In a statement to the media after stamping his signature on the documents, Biden stressed that the orders “will undo the damage caused by former President Donald Trump to the US health system.”

Thus, his Administration hopes to open a specific application period for those who want to benefit from Obamacare, a law that seeks to provide medical coverage to millions of people who do not have insurance.

“For President Biden this is personal. He believes that all Americans have the right to rest easy and know that they have access to quality and affordable healthcare,” the White House said in a statement.

In this regard, Biden has also pledged to issue a presidential memorandum in order to protect women’s reproductive rights and expand access to abortion. As the newspaper ‘The New York Times’ has explained, Biden has also revoked the restrictions imposed by Trump to use public funds to subsidize specialized clinics, precisely, in family planning and voluntary interruptions of pregnancy.

Likewise, the documents allow us to reverse the so-called Mexico City Policy, which prohibited NGOs that receive federal funds from performing abortion-related services in other countries.
