The president of France, Emmanuel Macron, has tested positive for coronavirus in a PCR test this Thursday, so he will be kept in isolation for seven days, as announced in a statement by the Elysee Palace.

“The president of the republic has been diagnosed as positive for COVID-19 today,” explained the Presidency of France. Elíseo reported that Macron underwent a PCR test “after the first symptoms appeared.”

“In accordance with the health regulations in force and applicable to all, the President of the Republic will isolate himself for seven days. He will continue working and assuming his activities remotely”, concluded the French Presidency.

After Macron’s positive, French Prime Minister Jean Castex did not attend his scheduled appearance in the Senate on Thursday to present the French government’s strategy for vaccination against the coronavirus. As explained by the president of the Upper House, Castex has put himself in isolation for having been in contact with Macron.

The confirmation of Macron’s positive for coronavirus has been known days after the French president had lunch this Monday with the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, the Secretary General of the OECD, Ángel Gurría, and the President of the European Council, Charles Michel , in the Elysee Palace.

Days before, the president of France participated in Brussels in the summit of heads of state and government of the European Union that was held on Thursday and Friday of last week.
