Some 20,000 people demonstrate in Munich in repudiation of racism

Some 20,000 people participated in a protest in Munich on Saturday in repudiation of racism and police violence after the death of black citizen George Floyd in an operation in the US city of Minneapolis.

Due to restrictions in place to curb the coronavirus pandemic in the state of Bavaria, organizers were allowed to demonstrate with a maximum of 200 people. “The distancing rules are not being respected,” a police officer told DPA.

In other cities of the country there have also been marches in which the participants moved around dressed in black and in silence.

In Munich, some cries of “Black Lives Matter” were heard, a slogan that guides the protests since Floyd’s death.

In Frankfurt, some 8,000 people have participated in a march that took place peacefully and in which protesters adhered to hygiene rules to prevent infection, according to police.
