Peru elected for the eighth consecutive year ‘Best Culinary Destination in the World’

Peru has been recognized as the Best Culinary Destination in the World for the eighth consecutive year at the World Travel Awards 2019 (WTA), held in Muscat, capital of Oman.

This award puts the finishing touch to a 2019 in which Peruvian cuisine has obtained various awards and in which, in addition, it has placed two of its most emblematic restaurants (Maido and Central, both in Lima) on the list of Los 50 Best Restaurants in the World.

Peru has a gastronomy based on products over 3,000 years old that looks to the future. Peruvian gastronomic knowledge has been transferred from generation to generation, merging with flavors from other parts of the world that have enriched Peruvian cuisine. Thus, new types of cuisine have emerged such as Nikkei (Peruvian-Japanese fusion) or Chifa (Chinese-Peruvian), which today have their own brand and recognition.

This distinction adds to other recent awards that the cuisine of the Andean country has obtained in recent times: Best Culinary Destination of South America 2019. It also placed eleven Peruvian restaurants in the list of The 50 Best Restaurants in Latin America 2019, and two restaurants –Central and Maido–, in the list of The 50 Best Restaurants in the World.

In addition to the recognition of ‘Best Culinary Destination in the World’, Peru has also received the awards of ‘Best Cultural Destination in the World’ and Machu Pichu has been distinguished as ‘Best Tourist Attraction in the World’.
