Puerto Rico will host the Ultra Challenge in May: Caribbean Series

Secretary of the Department of Recreation and Sports (DRD), Adriana Sanchez, and businessman Jan Maduro, announced the celebration of the Ultra Challenge: Caribbean Series, from May 24 to May 26, 2019, in the municipality of Fajardo, “under the commitment to promote the practice of extreme sports in Puerto Rico. “

The Ultra Challenge: Caribbean Series, according to its organizers, will seek to raise funds for the San Jorge Children’s Foundation.

The secretary revealed that within the competitive event, swimmer Joel Matos, will seek to set a new world record by crossing 100 kilometers in open water from the island Jost Van Dyke, from the British Virgin Islands to Las Croabas, in Fajardo (Puerto Rico).

He will be accompanied by coach Randy Soler.

“The practice of extreme sports continues to grow worldwide, Puerto Rico has the ideal conditions to become the headquarters of a great variety of extreme disciplines with the potential to put the eyes of the world on our Island and our athletes,” said Maduro at the press conference to present the competition.

During the Ultra Challenge: Caribbean Series, the Conservation Conscience Organization will perform underwater cleaning in order to highlight the importance of taking care of the waters.

Likewise, three simultaneous events will be held that will unite athletes such as Patsy Ramírez (marathon runner), Francisco “Bobby” Martínez (cyclist) and Jorge Quintana (paddleboarder), each in their sports disciplines that include a 90-kilometer race, an itinerary of 435 kilometers bicycle and another for paddleboard, 40 kilometers.

For these simultaneous events spaces will be created so that those interested can accompany these athletes in parts of their trajectories.

The Ultra Challenge: Caribbean Series will end on Sunday May 26 after the arrival of Matos, the delivery of donations to the San Jorge Children’s Foundation and the reception of the world title. (EFEUSA)
