Huawei financial director sued Canada for her arrest

Toronto (Canada), .- The Huawei Financial Director, Megn Wanzhou, has filed a lawsuit against the Canadian authorities following his arrest on December 1, 2018.
The lawsuit was filed by Meng on Friday, the same day that the Justice Ministry of Canada approved the processing of his extradition process to the United States, according to Canadian media reports.

US authorities accuse Huawei, two affiliated companies and Meng Wanzhou, of thirteen counts of fraud and conspiracy to bypass sanctions on Iran.

Meng, who is the daughter of the founder of Huawei, alleges in her lawsuit that the Border Services Agency of Canada, the Mounted Police and the Canadian Government violated her constitutional rights when she was arrested and questioned in Vancouver on December 1.

Meng was arrested when she stopped in Vancouver on her way to Mexico.

Lawyers for the Chinese executive say she suffered “mental anguish, anxiety and loss of freedom” after being held at the Vancouver airport for three hours without any explanation or access to her lawyers.

The lawsuit explains that Meng was intentionally detained under the guise of a routine check “for the express purpose of obtaining information that the Mounted Police, or the US Department of Justice, did not believe would be obtained if the applicant were stopped immediately. “

The Canadian Police appropriated two mobile phones, an iPad and a Meng computer and requested the passwords with which they accessed their content.

On Friday, the Canadian Ministry of Justice authorized the commencement of Meng’s extradition proceedings to the United States.
Wanzhou, who is on bail and is banned from leaving his mansion in Vancouver, plans to appear next March 6 before the Supreme Court of the province of British Columbia to begin the extradition process.

The arrest of Meng has caused a serious crisis in relations between Canada and China.

Following the arrest of Wanzhou in Canada, China detained two Canadians on December 10, 2018, the diplomat Michael Kovrig and businessman Michael Spavor, on charges of endangering Chinese national security.

Today, the official news agency of China, Xinhua, said that the Chinese authorities consider that Kovrig stole state secrets with the help of Spavor.EFEUSA)
