A group of Democratic lawmakers today asked the director of the FBI, Christopher Wray, to investigate the Trump Organization -owned by the US president- for having used at least a score of undocumented Latin American workers on their golf courses.
“We write to ask him for a thorough federal investigation into the disturbing accusations by ex-employees of the Trump Organization that demonstrate possible violations of civil and criminal laws,” the lawmakers noted in a letter.
The request was driven by Congressman Raúl Grijalva and signed by his colleagues Yvette D. Clarke, Nydia Velázquez, Joseph Kennedy III, André Carson, Darren Soto, Jimmy Gomez, Bonnie Watson Coleman and Tom Malinowski.
A score of former employees of the Trump golf courses in Westchester (New York) and Bedminster (New Jersey) reported having worked without papers for the companies of the US president.
According to an investigation by The Washington Post, the management of the Bedminster club, which Trump usually goes to on summer weekends, hired employees from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico and Guatemala who lived in the working-class neighborhood of Bound Brook, in New Jersey, and that before dawn were piled in vans to go to the golf course every morning.
The capital newspaper reported that many of the illegal workers who worked for Trump companies were dismissed en masse when pressure began to build the wall on the border between the United States. and Mexico.
The Trump Organization defended that these workers without papers no longer work for their companies and that at the time of employing them they did not know they were undocumented because they used false documents.
However, some of those workers claimed that their superiors did have knowledge of their immigration status.
The Democratic congressmen who requested the investigation told the director of the FBI that Trump “did not hesitate to break the law to hire (undocumented immigrants) and exploit them for their own financial benefit.” (EFEUSA) .-
