“Black Panther” reigns at the Awards of the Actors Guild

The superhero film “Black Panther” triumphed today at the 25th edition of the awards of the United States Actors Guild (SAG) by taking the award to the best cast of a movie.

Chadwick Boseman, who appeared on stage accompanied by “Black Panther” partners such as Lupita Nyong’o and Michael B. Jordan, rhetorically wondered if this film has changed the way the audiovisual industry sees black artists.

“Everyone (the black interpreters of ‘Black Panther’) know what it is to be told that there is no screen or stage for you to appear, we know what it is to be the tail and not the head. We went to work every day (…) because we knew we had something special to give to the world, “he explained.

This successful Marvel film, which grossed 1,346 million dollars worldwide, continues to open the way for diversity in Hollywood after being the first superhero film with a black protagonist.
In addition, “Black Panther” this week became the first superhero movie to be nominated for an Oscar for best feature film.

In a season of Hollywood awards quite open and without clear favorites, Rami Malek and Glenn Close today confirmed their credentials for the Oscars by taking the statuettes to the best actor and best actress, respectively.
“I thank Queen and Freddie Mercury,” said the protagonist of “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

“I received some power from him (Mercury) on what it is to step forward and live life to the fullest: be exactly what you want to be and get everything you want,” he added.
Close, winner of “The Wife”, underlined the artistic power of cinema as it allows us to recreate what happens when two people look each other in the eye.

For his part, Mahershala Ali, who already received the Golden Globe Award for best supporting actor for “Green Book”, reinforced his status as an Oscar favorite in this category by coming out today as a winner.

And Emily Blunt, who was not nominated for the Oscars nor for “Mary Poppins Returns” nor for “A Quiet Place”, could be compensated today.
The British one took the recognition to the best supporting actress by “A Quiet Place” and it dedicated it especially to its husband John Krasinski, director and co-protagonist of that tape.

The gala, which was held in the shrine auditorium of Los Angeles (USA), was not particularly lucky for the Spanish as neither Antonio Banderas nor Penélope Cruz, nominated in the television categories for “Genius: Picasso”, won and “American Crime Story: The Assassination Of Gianni Versace”, respectively.

“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”, the series of Amazon on a monologuista in years 50, devastated in the sections of televising comedy.

Thus, Rachel Brosnahan won the award for best comedic actress, Tony Shalhoub won the award for best comic actor and the entire cast won the distinction to the best cast of a comedy series.

As for the dramatic television awards, Jason Bateman won the best actor statuette for “Ozark”, Sandra Oh proclaimed winner as best actress for “Killing Eve”, and the cast of “This is Us” won the prize to the best cast.

Darren Criss was chosen best actor of a limited series or television movie thanks to “American Crime Story: The Assassination Of Gianni Versace”, while Patricia Arquette was proclaimed best actress in the same section by “Escape at Dannemora”.

Arquette left one of the most commented moments of the night when remembering the president of the United States, Donald Trump, and the alleged Russian interference in the elections of 2016.

“Thank you, Robert Mueller, and all those who work to guarantee that we have sovereignty in the United States,” he said, referring to the special prosecutor in charge of this investigation.
Finally, the legendary performer Alan Alda received today a special award for his career and stressed that one of the greatness of his profession is being able to get into the heads of the characters he embodies.

“Perhaps it has never been more urgent to see the world through the eyes of another person, when a culture is so markedly divided, the actors can help, at least a little, simply by doing what they do,” he said. –
