ONU General Assembly ratifies Pact on Migration without US support

The General Assembly of the United Nations ratified today with the support of 152 countries the Global Compact for a Secure, Ordered and Regular Migration, which was approved by acclamation on December 10 in Marrakesh but on this occasion has not had the support of five countries, including the USA

The agreement, which is not binding, has finally been rejected by the United States, Poland, Hungary, Israel and the Czech Republic, while another twelve countries have abstained, including Chile, Italy and Switzerland.

The president of the General Assembly, María Fernanda Espinosa, described the agreement of a “historic opportunity” that can help migration “benefit all”, a proposal criticized by countries opposed to the pact, such as Hungary, whose foreign minister, Peter Szijarto, described it as “serious error.” (EFEUSA) .-
