The Dominican Luguelín Santos, Olympic runner-up in London 2012, today hung the gold of the 400 meters of the Central American and Caribbean Games to be imposed, with authority, in that test held at the Rafael Cotes Stadium in Barranquilla.
Santos, 25 years old and also champion at the 2015 Toronto Pan American Games, took the test in 44.59 seconds, his best mark of the season, while the Cuban Yoandys Lescay got the silver with a 45.38 mark, which is also his best presentation of the year.
“The test was a bit slow at the beginning of my part, but my teammates went to the maximum, I imposed myself in what is my strongest part, I started running in that last part and I have shown, as always, that I am among the best of the Caribbean and the world, “Santos told reporters.
He added: “I felt a little anxious at the time of the shot and after 50 meters, I said let’s go they left and they’ll leave us, and then I went progressive until my shot, which is the strongest I have” .
The bronze of the 400 meters was for the Costa Rican Nery Brenes who made a time of 45.61 and snatched him, for nine hundredths, that medal to the Jamaican Rusheen McDonald.
Also participating in the competition were the Colombian John Perlaza, the Bahamian Alonzo Russell, the Dominican Lidio Feliz and the Jamaican Steven Lloyd.
In the women’s 400m, Tiffany James, from Jamaica, hung the gold at the end of the test at 52.35, while the Dominican Fiordaliza Cofil took the money.
The bronze went to the Jamaican Derri Hill.
Kanika Beckles from Granada also participated in the event; Ashley Kelly, of British Virgin Islands; Milagros Durán, from the Dominican Republic; Desire Bermúdez, from Costa Rica, and the Cuban Gilda Casanova.
