Mexico closes in 89.1 million its list of voters for presidential 2018

The National Electoral Institute (INE) of Mexico today declared “valid and final” the nominal list of voters with 89.1 million registered citizens to cast their votes in the presidential elections on July 1.

The INE, entity responsible for the organization of the presidential elections, confirmed in a statement that the nominal list of voters will be made up of 89,123,355 citizens.

The electoral authority confirmed both the nominal list and the electoral roll have “the highest degree of certainty and reliability”.

The pattern is formed by the citizens who requested their registration to obtain the voter registration card (89.332.031) and the nominal list by those who now have the document and have it in force (89.123.355).

The nominal list and the electoral roll “are reliable,” said the INE’s president, Lorenzo Cordova, “noting that these instruments have been reviewed and verified by political parties, specialists and also by citizens.

The INE Presidential Adviser stressed that the high reliability of the voter registry and the nominal list of voters are examples of the progress made by Mexican democracy.

Córdova established that concepts such as “shaved” (removed from the list) or “dead included in the Electoral Roll”, are absolutely eradicated.

In addition to the nominal list of voters of Mexican citizens, the INE confirmed that the list of Mexicans residing abroad who can vote amounts to 181,256 that are distributed in 120 countries.

The three countries with the most Mexican residents that will be able to vote this July 1 are the United States, with 152,337; Canada, with 6,976, and Spain, with 3,641.
