The BMI Latino Awards will pay tribute to Luis Fonsi

The BMI Latino Awards, given annually by the copyright management entity Broadcast Music Inc., will pay tribute at their 2018 gala to Puerto Rican musician Luis Fonsi.

BMI said today through a press release that the 25th edition of these awards will be held on March 20 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles.

The organization of these awards stressed that the author of the worldwide hit “Despacito” will receive the BMI presidential award in recognition of his musical achievements in two decades of his career.

“Luis is not only one of the most influential composers in the Latin music community but he is also one of the most important stars of the genre and is responsible for one of the most mentioned songs of the year,” said the vice president of the department. BMI Latino, Delia Orjuela.

“His music transcends genres and his passion for creating unforgettable songs only compares with his humanitarian efforts, and we are truly proud to award this year’s presidential prize to Luis Fonsi,” he added.

In the last two years this honorary award of BMI went to Gloria Trevi and Los Lobos group.
