The cold wave in Florida leaves record in Miami, with 48 degrees Fahrenheit

The wave of cold that extends from last Saturday through Florida has left unpublished snowfalls in northern areas of this southern state and unusually low temperatures such as 48 degrees Fahrenheit (8.8 degrees Celsius) that today marked the thermometers in Miami.

There was not registered such a low minimum in the “city of the sun” since January 2016, according to the National Meteorology Service.

Local media meteorologists indicated that the cold front will remain in South Florida until next Saturday, with clamp temperatures of forty Fahrenheit (from 4.4 degrees Celsius) at night and between 60 and 70 for the day (17 and 21 centigrade).

Despite the low temperatures, the sky is clear and the sun shines during the day in cities like Miami.

In the northwest of Florida the winter wave covered last weekend with a blanket of snow some border areas with the state of Alabama and even caused the closure of some highways.

Escambia and Santa Rosa counties awoke on Saturday with up to 2 inches (50 millimeters) of snow, according to the digital newspaper NorthEscambia.com.
The official Twitter account of Santa Rosa County posted some images of fields and snow-covered roads.

A wave of cold that forced South Florida counties such as Broward (north of Miami) to declare an “emergency”, so the authorities set up a series of shelters, the Sun Sentinel newspaper reported.

The Florida Highway Patrol has urged drivers to exercise extreme caution these days on the roads, as the cold front on the state is expected to continue. (efeusa)
