A Border Patrol agent (CBP) was killed today in Van Horn (Texas) while patrolling the sector of Big Bend, a border area with Mexico, the security body said.
Officer Rogelio Martínez and his patrol partner responded to a suspicious activity near the Van Horn station, less than 40 kilometers from the state of Chihuahua (Mexico), when they were seriously injured.
Both officers were taken to a local hospital, where Martinez died from the injuries he suffered and his partner remained in a serious condition, according to the CBP in a statement.
The police body did not specify which weapon caused the injuries of the two agents or at what exact time the attack occurred.
Troops from the Border Patrol Special Operations Group and agents of the Air and Maritime Operations of the CBP are looking for suspects or witnesses in the area of the incident.
In addition, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating the crime scene with the help of different local authorities, such as the Culberson County Sheriff’s Department.
