Trump orders $ 200 million a year in school science programs

President Donald Trump today ordered his Education Department to invest at least $ 200 million annually in grants so that schools in the country can expand their training in science and computer science.

“With this, we’re going to help give our American children a way to succeed in the job market in the future,” Trump said at a ceremony at the Oval Office, surrounded by students.

The president signed an order asking his Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, to prioritize educational projects related to science, technology, engineering, mathematics and computer science when it comes to distributing funds within a grant program to schools.

“Right now, more than half of colleges do not offer computer programming classes, and nearly 40 percent do not offer physics,” Trump said.

Ivanka Trump’s daughter and adviser, Ivanka Trump, said the aim of the initiative is “to align the knowledge that is taught in the classroom with those demanded in the modern economy.”

“We now have more than 6 million vacancies (in the country), some of them in the IT sector, which are largely vacant because of the lack of knowledge” of the applicants, Ivanka explained in a telephone conference call.

The president, for his part, advised students to dedicate themselves in the future to “something they love”, and so what they do “will not be work, but pleasure.”
