Trump accuses Republicans of doing “too little” to protect him

President Donald Trump today accused Republicans of Congress of doing “too little” to protect him, and again criticized the investigation into alleged ties with Russia in his election campaign in 2016.

“It’s very sad that Republicans, including some who took advantage of my promotion to get where they are, do very little to protect their president,” Trump wrote in a tweet.

It is unclear what Trump was referring to, although his message comes just days after Republican leaders in Congress failed to make a second attempt to overturn and replace the healthcare reform prompted by former President Barack Obama, popularly known as Obamacare.

Trump blamed that failure on Democrats and “some Republicans” in Congress, and the leaders of that Conservative party plan to reopen a plan to repeal Obamacare this week, though its contents are unclear.

Republican Sen. John Thune told Fox News today that there will be a procedural vote in the Senate on Tuesday as soon as possible, and that it will simply serve to open debate on the bill so lawmakers can table amendments.

After the failure of the Republicans’ second attempt, Trump said Republicans should repeal Obamacare even if there was no alternative to replace it, although the White House insisted today that their preference remains to do both at the same time.

Trump could also be referring to the FBI’s investigation and two congressional committees about his team’s ties to Russia, because today he alluded to that issue in an earlier tweet.

“As the fake Russian witch-hunt continues, there are two groups that laugh at all this, which is an excuse to have lost the (2016) elections, the Democrats and the Russians!” Trump tweeted.

Trump’s son-in-law and trustee Jared Kushner is due to testify behind closed doors on Monday before the Senate Intelligence Committee and Tuesday before the House of Representatives commission on his contacts with Russians during the election campaign.
