The WBC has nothing against ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, says Sulaimán

World Boxing Council (WBC) president Mauricio Sulaiman said today that the body has nothing against Mexican Saul ‘Canelo’ Álvarez and recalled that the Kazakh Gennady Golovkin will come out as Council middleweight champion in the fight that both Starring on September 16 in Las Vegas.

Days before the match against his compatriot Julio César Chávez Junior, ‘Canelo’ anticipated that if a confrontation with Golovkin “we will do without (the title of) CMB, it will be for the other titles” (World Boxing Association (AMB), Federation International Boxing (IBF) and World Boxing Organization (WBO).

“They can try what they want, the Council champion is Golovkin and if they try to do something is a direct and inexplicable action, but by no means will Golvkin accept that because he is our champion,” Sulaiman told media in Monday’s City from Mexico.

The leader explained that the case of Alvarez is “very simple, very practical and open, the WBC has absolutely nothing against the ‘Canelo’ or anybody.”

Sulaiman recalled that the only thing that the WBC has done for many years “has been to offer friendship, opportunities and unconditional support. The fact that it does not see it like this is a matter of revising history, the facts are public,” he said.

He explained that the agency he supports supports the boxers’ runs, that there is a regulation with benefits but also gives commitments and obligations.

On the other hand, Sulaiman explained that the commemorative belt with Huichol art that would be delivered to the winner of the fight on May 6 and that rejected Alvarez will close his first chapter on Wednesday with a ceremony, although he did not say if it will receive ‘Canelo’.

That same day will begin another story for the combat of the 16 of September.
