Hamas responds to the US saying it is protecting the population of Gaza from Israeli-funded militias

It recommends that Washington be concerned about the Israeli attacks occurring after the ceasefire

The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas has categorically rejected US accusations that it is preparing an “imminent attack” against the population of Gaza and that the civilians described to Washington are, in fact, Israeli-funded militias dedicated to destroying the civilian security structure that remained in place during the war against Israel.

Hamas has responded forcefully to the message released early this morning by the US State Department, which claimed to have information from the “guaranteed countries” of the ceasefire in Gaza about a Hamas attack against its own people, which “would constitute a direct and grave violation of the ceasefire agreement.”

The Islamist movement’s response, published in Filastin, a newspaper closely linked to the organization, asserts that the US message is a “false accusation that fully corresponds to deceptive Israeli propaganda.”

Hamas asserts that the exact opposite of what the United States claims is happening, and that its interventions are aimed at “criminal gangs, trained, armed, and financed by the occupation authorities”—a reference to Israel—who have dedicated themselves during the war to perpetrating “murders, kidnappings, thefts of humanitarian aid trucks, and attacks against Palestinian civilians.”

Among them, for example, is the one led by Yasser Abu Shabab, head of the guerrilla group that bears his name. This past June, he admitted for the first time that he is cooperating “at a certain level with Israel,” as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu himself had announced weeks earlier.

Security sources in Gaza have confirmed that the Radaa Force (Hamas’s new internal police force, created last June) is carrying out “a broad campaign across the Strip to target suspected collaborators and criminal networks, with the full support of Palestinian factions.”

Telegram channels affiliated with the Islamist movement, according to CNN, have confirmed that Hamas is carrying out public executions of criminals, but moderators clarify that these are being carried out “following the relevant legal processes.”

The Independent Commission for Human Rights (IACHR), the Palestinian government’s national human rights watchdog in the West Bank, has denounced that “these acts constitute serious legal and moral crimes that require urgent condemnation and accountability.”

In response, Hamas insists in its Sunday statement that the defendants “publicly acknowledged their crimes through media and videos, confirming the occupation’s involvement in spreading chaos and disrupting security.”

The movement finally insists that the Gaza police forces, “with broad civilian and popular support, are fulfilling their national duty by pursuing these gangs and holding them accountable in accordance with clear legal mechanisms, to protect citizens and safeguard public and private property.”

Thus, Hamas calls on the US administration to stop repeating “the occupation’s misleading narrative and address its repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement,” particularly “its support for these gangs and the provision of safe havens for them within areas under its control.”
