US space company SpaceX has successfully launched a Falcon 9 rocket into space from Cape Canaveral, Fla., Which will put a satellite into the service of the US Department of Defense, the company said.
The launch of the rocket, which had been suspended last Sunday due to a “sensor problem,” was made at 7:15 am local time (11.15 GMT) from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral.
The rocket will orbit a NROL-76 spy satellite in the service of the United States National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), a project that will, among other objectives, target the detection of “potential threats to security” . And “terrorist tracking and control” development of nuclear weapons, according to local channel WFTV9.
Last March SpaceX successfully launched space for the first time in history a recycled rocket, since it had already been used in a mission made eleven months ago.
The “Falcon 9” rocket that then took off from the Kennedy Space Center also placed a communications satellite in orbit and landed successfully, marking a milestone in the company’s history of rocket reuse.
