Donald Trump leaves Las Vegas without talking about gun control

President Donald Trump today ended his visit to Las Vegas, Nevada, where 58 people died on Sunday and more than 500 were wounded in a shootout, not to mention arms control in the country after visiting some victims and agents that responded to the attack.

Trump said during his visit to the University Medical Center, where there are multiple injured injured in the shooting, who will not speak for the moment of “gun violence.”

“We will not talk about gun violence today, this was the work of a sick and demented person,” the president said in a brief meeting with the media after finishing his visit to the medical center, accompanied by the first lady, Melania.

“I want to highlight the work of the professionals who have treated the victims, they have done an indescribable job, we do not want to see something like that again,” said Trump, who described the doctors and other hospital staff as “some of the most amazing people “you’ve ever met.

“I’ve been with extremely badly injured victims, what I’ve seen here is an incredible tribute to the professionalism of all the staff,” he said. “It’s incredible the bravery of the police and all the people who helped the wounded. .

He was also pleased to know that most of the injured in the medical center will be discharged in the next few hours, days and weeks.

Finally, he valued the “exceptional” work of the Police and the team of the elite SWAT unit that burst into the hotel room from where it opened fire Stephen Paddock, author of the shooting that killed the lives of 58 people and left more than 500 wounded.

“They located him in 11 minutes. They did a fantastic job and saved a lot of lives,” he said.

Following a visit to the University Medical Center, Trump went to the headquarters of the Las Vegas Police, where he met with security forces and emergency services that responded to the attack.

There Trump appeared again before the media and, after giving a solemn speech in which he affirmed that “the USA is a nation that is in mourning” at the moment and that the city of Las Vegas has shown his “true courage and personality”, he did not take questions.

After the massacre, the president has at all times avoided talking about the control of firearms in the United States, although on Tuesday he acknowledged aboard Air Force One that “maybe” that debate would open “at some point.”

During the 2016 election campaign, Trump was supported by the National Rifle Association (NRA), the largest anti-gun lobby, and allocated millions of dollars to protect the Second Amendment of the Constitution, which protects the right to bear arms.

On Sunday, from his 32nd-floor room window, Paddock, a 64-year-old retiree, shot at a crowd attending a country music festival for an interval of 9-11 minutes with semi-automatic rifles had modified to shoot faster.

Paddock had been prescribed in June 50 tablets of 10 milligrams of the sedative diazepam (valium), an anti-anxiety drug that can provoke aggressive behavior, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Paddock bought the pills at a Walgreens pharmacy in Reno, Nevada on the day they were prescribed.

The abuse of that drug can provoke psychotic experiences in the consumer, according to details specialized portal drugabuse.com.

Authorities have recovered a total of 47 guns at three different locations, the Mandalay Bay Hotel and two Paddock residences, which were acquired in four states by the attacker.

Sources from the investigation told the Los Angeles Times that although Paddock began buying weapons more than 20 years ago, most of the discovered arsenal bought it since October 2016.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is now in custody of 62-year-old Marilou Danley, the author of the killing and declared a “person of interest” for the investigation.

Danley, of Filipino origin and Australian nationality, arrived Tuesday night in Los Angeles (California) after spending at least 15 days outside the United States
