The meteorological authorities of the United States have warned this Sunday that Hurricane ‘Beryl’ has strengthened in recent hours as it approaches the Caribbean and seriously threatens the population of the Windward Islands, such as Trinidad, Martinique, Saint Lucia and Barbados. .
“Hurricane ‘Beryl’ continues to strengthen rapidly this Sunday morning. The storm is now a very dangerous Category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour,” the National Hurricane Center said in a statement.
The center warns that the passage of ‘Beryl’ is accompanied by “potentially lethal winds and storm surges” that will reach parts of the islands “early on Monday.”
‘Beryl’ is the first hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic season and the earliest hurricane of this magnitude since 1966.
