The Dallas Mavericks were proclaimed champions of the NBA Western Conference this Thursday and qualified for the Finals for the ring after beating the Minnesota Timberwolves 103-124 in the fifth game of the series, making it the final 4-1, with another decisive performance by the Slovenian Luka Doncic with 36 points.
The Texans dominated the scoreboard from start to finish, achieving gains of over 20 points at the start. They led 19-40 as soon as the second quarter began after a triple by Maxi Kleber, and the Timberwolves could barely come close in the electronic against the Mavericks launched towards the conference title and the spoils of the grand final for the title.
The 36 points from both Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, the two stars of the team led by Jason Kidd, were too much for the Wolves in which Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards stood out, both with 28 points. But they were not successful from the triple, especially the Dominican, with 1/6 from the perimeter.
Chris Finch’s men did not have any chance of a comeback against some very dominant ‘Mavs’ who did not stop stepping on the accelerator until the end, certifying their first NBA final after 2011, in which Dirk Nowitzki led the Texans to the only title in their history.
The Boston Celtics, who return to the NBA Finals two years later, will be the Mavericks’ rivals for the ring, in a series that will start in the early hours of Thursday through Friday at the TD Garden. It would be the first championship ring for the generation of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown in the greens, or Luka Doncic with Kidd’s.
