Merrifield and Royals win for seventh consecutive time

Second baseman Whit Merrifield homered in the first inning of the first inning and the Kansas City Royals made their seventh straight win by beating the Detroit Tigers 3-1.

The Royals, who had their seventh straight win, had a 7-16 record at the end of April and is now 1.5 games away from the leaders of the AL Central.

Merrifield (11) connected from four corners in the first inning by punishing opener Michael Fulmer’s pitches.

The win was credited by starter Dany Duffy (7-6) in six and one-third episodes, taking six hits and one run.

Dominican closer Kelvin Herrera (21) was awarded a save by throwing an episode and struck out an enemy.

The Tigers lost with opener Michael Fulmer (10-8) in eight innings, with a punishment of eight hits, home run and three runs.
