The 2021 MTV EMAs took place on November 14 at Hungary’s Papp László Budapest Sportaréna with a great live show that celebrated music for everyone around the world. The event aired on MTV in 180 countries and featured impressive performances by today’s most acclaimed and recognized artists. Celebrities like Ed Sheeran and BTS swept away several awards, while Aitana won the award for best Spanish artist.
Sheeran won the best artist and best song awards for Bad Habits. For its part, BTS won the highest number of awards including best pop artist, best K-Pop, best group and best fans.
Aitana beat Ana Mena, C. Tangana, Colectivo da Silva and Pablo Alborán and won the award for best Spanish artist. However, the star did not attend the event and thanked her for her award through Instagram.

For her part, Lil Nas X won the award for best video for MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name), while the award for best collaboration went to the hands of Doja Cat and SZA for Kiss Me More.
Maneskin, the band that rose to fame thanks to their victory in Eurovision 2021, received the recognition for best rock artist, while the host of the night, the artist Saweetie, won the award for best new artist.
The show featured performances by OneRepublic, Imagine Dragons, Griff or YUNGBLUD, among others. Kim Petras made history as the first trans artist to perform at the MTV EMAs. It should be noted that this was the first edition in which the winners of the MTV EMA Generation Change Award were recognized during the show. This award recognized the work of LGBTQ + rights activists Amir Ashour, Sage Dolan-Sandrino, Matthew Blaise, Erika Hilton and Viktória Radványi. Drew Barrymore was in charge of delivering the award.
