The Senate receives a visit from Eric Adams, mayor-elect of New York

Santo Domingo.- In a ceremony led by the president of the Senate of the Republic, Eduardo Estrella (Santiago), the Upper House received this Monday the visit of the newly elected mayor of the city of New York, Eric Leroy Adams.

Eduardo Estrella assured that the visit of the elected mayor of New York is very timely and beneficial for the Dominican Republic, due to the cultural and commercial exchange that will take place from this first trip to the country.

“We understand that with the knowledge of him (Eric Leroy Adams) we are going to achieve a lot in terms of citizen security. It is a great honor for us to have you here. Also, we are highly grateful for the welcome they have given Dominicans in New York City; we have no way of paying them for that gesture, “said the president of the Senate.

During his speech, Estrella highlighted the valuable contribution of Dominicans residing in the United States through their remittances, which during the pandemic became an important support for the national economy.

The president of the Senate took advantage of the occasion to reiterate the request to the United States Government to collaborate with the neighboring country of Haiti. “With the influence that you have; We want them to carry the message that we Dominicans want and need the United States to help our brother Haitian people at this time. It is something that our president, Luis Abinader, is demanding ”, he specified.

The president of the Permanent Commission of Dominicans Residing Abroad, Carlos Gómez (Espaillat), thanked Adams for his visit to the country. In addition, he highlighted the perseverance of Dominicans working to progress in the United States in hopes of achieving the American dream.

Meanwhile, the mayor-elect of New York, Eric Adams, expressed his satisfaction with the reception that they have given him along with the entourage that accompanies him and made himself available to all Dominicans.
“Your problems are my problems, we share the same concerns; you will have a mayor in New York City who understands the power of this great country and that together as partners we will begin the process of success. Thank you for allowing me to be here, ”said Mayor-elect Adams.

The activity was attended by the president of the Upper House, Eduardo Estrella (Santiago); Santiago José Zorrilla (El Sebo), vice president of the Senate, as well as legislators Franklin Romero (Duarte); Lía Díaz Santana (Azua); Eddy Nolasco (Valverde); Virgilio Cedano (La Altagracia); Pedro Catrain (Samaná); Antonio Marte (Santiago Rodríguez); Lic. Valentín Medrano (Independence); Franklin Rodríguez (San Cristóbal); Franklin Peña (San Pedro de Macorís); David Sosa (Dajabón); Carlos Gómez (Espaillat); Milcíades Franjul (Peravia); Lenin Valdez (Monte Plata); and Ramón Pimentel (Montecristi).

For the Chamber of Deputies its president Alfredo Pacheco participated, as well as legislators Adelis de Jesús Olivares, Lily Florentino, Kenia Bidó, Ramón Ceballos, Norberto Rodríguez and Julio Brito.

The delegation that traveled with the elected mayor of New York was made up of Henry Garrido, director of the DC 37 union and member of the Board Advisory; Councilor Ydanis Rodríguez; the advisers of the mayor Jesse Hamilton, Winnie Greco, Lisa Lishley and Bertha Hare, in addition, the assistant Ingrid P. Martín and in representation of the congressman Adriano Espaillat, the chief of the cabinet, Aneyri Bautista, participated.

Marioquis Sebastián, Lía Díaz and Melisa Guzmán participated for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In addition, the Moroccan ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Zakarías El Goumiri; and the Dominican consul in New York City, Eligio Jáquez.
