The social network Twitter reported this Monday that it has permanently canceled more than 70,000 profiles from its platform that spread conspiracy theories and material related to the theses of the far-right movement QAnon, present among the supporters of the president of the United States. , Donald Trump, who stormed the Capitol last week.
“These accounts were dedicated to sharing harmful content associated with QAnon on a large scale”, as well as “the spread of their conspiracy theories,” Twitter explained in a statement, in which it also specified that many of these profiles were managed by several people managing others at the same time.
Last week, the aforementioned social network also permanently suspended Trump’s official account, who had made this tool his main communication platform.
Twitter justified its closure by claiming that the president of the United States was encouraging with some of his messages those who went to the Capitol last Wednesday. A measure that was followed by Facebook and Instagram, who also canceled Trump’s profiles on these platforms.
Trump’s alleged incitement to violence has resulted in increased pressure for him to leave office before the inauguration ceremony. It has also led to the opening of a political trial or ‘impeachment’ against him for “inciting insurrection.”
