Vermont State Senator and Democratic Party pre-candidate for the White House, Bernie Sanders, announced Wednesday that he is leaving the presidential race amid a coronavirus pandemic, underpinning the candidacy of former United States Vice President Joe Biden.
Sanders has announced the decision in a phone call to members of his electoral campaign, as confirmed by sources close to the matter on CNN television.
His departure from the race at the White House has taken place despite the good results obtained by Sanders in early February. Although he seemed the main favorite to win the primaries, the one who was the ‘number two’ of the now former president Barack Obama has garnered great victories, which has led to the consolidation of moderate voters around the figure of the former vice president.
